Here at Amalgamated Pest Control Parramatta we have been getting very busy as we get to the back end of winter. Spring is just around the corner, and there are a lot of people preparing their properties now for the coming warmer months.
This spring is going to be an extremely busy one for us at Amalgamated Pest Control. We can tell this because a lot of the pests that we don’t normally see much of for at least another few weeks or so are already making a strong appearance.
Which pests are coming early for Spring?
Just some of the pests we are seeing earlier than usual for Sprint here in Parramatta include spiders, bees, wasps and cockroaches.
If the spiders are out, there must be plenty of food for them
Spiders will be building webs around the external walls of your home, under the eaves, on fascia’s and gutters, as well as in trees and plants in your garden – basically anywhere that gives them the advantage for catching insect meals. The most common spider encountered around homes in Sydney is known as the Black House Spider. These spiders mostly make webs around the external areas of the home itself. As populations grow, you may start to see them internally as well, around windows or quite often in the cornices.
Bees and Wasps are coming!
Bees and Wasps will start to be found very soon. Bees will start to swarm and attempt to nest in building voids, and wasps will be looking to build nests under your eaves and other similar places. Some things to look out for with wasps are their paper-like nests, which you may find hanging from the eaves, under window ledges or even within foliage. These nests will start off quite small, but if left untreated will likely end up becoming quite a good size, resulting in a great number of hazardous stinging wasps living just outside your home.
Bee swarms will start and continue from September to December. This is a natural part of the bee’s lifecycle. They may come to rest for a period of time on your property, or they may take up residence within your wall cavities. In either case, you should call Amalgamated Pest Control for assistance with any dangerous insect such as bees and wasps. This photo, taken last swarming season, shows an unlucky car owner’s vehicle that has become the resting place of a swarm of bees. Don’t let it get this far – call us early to take care of the problem for you!
Cockroaches are back on the march
Cockroaches will also start to become much more noticeable. While these pests have just been hiding around your home for the last few months, as it’s about to start warming up to optimal breeding temperatures very soon, this means that there’ll be plenty of cockroaches scurrying around your home.
The big problem for occupants of units and houses is that in this early stages of infestation, you simply don’t notice the cockroaches as much, which tends to allow residents to forget about them. Being mostly nocturnal, they tend to come out when it’s dark, again keeping them more likely out of sight. By the time you see them running around in the light, the infestation is well and truly established, and a lot larger problem to deal with.
What about the rest of them?
During spring, there are always certain pests that will start to pose an increased threat to our homes. These pests can include cockroaches, ants, spiders, ticks, mosquitos and many more. This is one of the busiest seasons for pests – and pest control!
The help ensure a pest-free season, please follow these steps:
Prevent their Entry: Ensure that your fly screens are properly fitted and have no holes in them. This will stop insects flying into your home.
Check External Walls and Eaves: Check these areas for wasp’s nests and spiders. If you find a wasp nest – don’t attempt to remove it yourself, their stings are very painful. Spiders most commonly found on external walls are black house spiders. While these spiders aren’t the most harmful, they do attract other spiders that love to eat them, such as the toxic White Tail Spider. Spiders can be easily controlled by Amalgamated Pest Control with a full 12 month service warranty.
Trees and Foliage: Keep trees and foliage trimmed well back from external walls. This is commonly how ants and other pests will access your home. If you have had a pest control treatment at your home this is especially important, as ants will bypass the barriers in place and access your home this way.
Clean Out Gutters: Guttering that is full of leaves and other matter can mean that water builds up, and doesn’t flow away as it should. This will be a good source of water for ants, mosquitos and other pests.
Garbage Bins: Keep your bins sealed, both those inside your home and outside. If pests are able to access your outside bins, they will. There is plenty of food for them in there. Pest like flies, cockroaches and ants will take advantage of bins.
